For the last blog of the year, I thought it would be fun to review pillows. Pillows are the easiest way to change your decor. They come in many different sizes and shapes and creativity with them is limitless. Below we are going to review the pillows I make the most and keep samples of on hand.
Knife Edge Pillow
A knife edge pillow is a pillow with no piping, it is two pieces of fabric sewed together with or with out a zipper closure. I love to make knife edge pillows that have one fabric on the front and a different fabric on the back. They can be flipped from side to side to change things up.

Pillow with Piping
Pillows with piping are a little bit more formal. They are seen on upholstered furniture that has piping or a more formal piece. On my sample below, I decided to have the piping stand out a bit by making it in a different fabric.

Pillow with a Flange
If you want a pillow with a little oomph, but not something as formal as a pillow with piping a flanged pillow is the way to go. The flange adds a little something to the pillow without it being a plain knife edge. On my pillow with a flange sample, I decided to make the flange pop a bit by using a different fabric.

Turkish Corners with a Gusset Bottom Pillow
Turkish corners are when there are folds at the corners of each pillow. Most of the time these pillows have piping on them as well. They add a little bit more detail to the pillow.

A gusset bottom pillow is when the corners are sewed in to make the pillow have a flat bottom. Gusset bottom pillows are great for leather sofas or chairs. They stay standing up and do not slide down the seat of the furniture.

Most of the time I see both of these features together, but you can do one with out the either. On my sample I decided to show both.
Lumbar Pillows
Lumbar pillows make great accent pillows and are perfect for furniture that has a deeper seat. I had a little bit of fun with my sample and did a blocking method on it. The accent fabric is in the middle with the matching green solid fabric on the outsides.

Bolster Pillows
Bolster pillows are fun due to their shape. They can come with flat ends or the ends can be pleated and have a button.
